Diablo 2 with LoD takes the cake for me.. never have i constantly returned to a game so many times... However starcraft was close second and Kirby super star almost took the second spot...

anyone of those 3 fits the bill of "greatest game ever" quite nicely. in my view very little else even comes close to being the utter masterpieces that these games are

Diablo SERIES--they were all great action RPGS
Planescape Torment---for pure unadulterated RPG fun
NWN---for sheer replayability and variety given the toolset release and the community
